Kathleen Heins, director of philanthropy, directs ACLS’s efforts to build its support from individuals and family foundations. She has led development efforts at national and international nonprofits for more than 15 years. Most recently she served as director of individual giving at Rainforest Alliance and in two roles at New York University, first at the Institute of Fine Arts and subsequently at the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. In these positions, she built highly successful major gift initiatives while overseeing other fundraising programs, including annual fund, board relations, and capital campaign planning. Heins has also held positions in the performing arts, at Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and Theatre for A New Audience, and has been a grantmaker at the Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation, which supports libraries, the humanities, and Venetian studies.

Heins earned a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College, a master’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis, and pursued doctoral studies at NYU’s Institute of Fine Arts.
