Valerie Popp is a Senior Program Officer at the American Council of Learned Societies. As part of the Fellowship & Public Programs team, she works to develop, analyze, and evaluate ACLS’s diverse portfolio of programs in the humanities and social sciences.

Before joining ACLS as a Program Officer in 2017, Popp was a manager of institutional giving for EL Education, a national K-12 education nonprofit. She also held managerial positions at the Beth Kobliner Company, where she worked alongside finance journalist Beth Kobliner and helped conduct research for two books that made The New York Times Best Seller list, and at Yale University's Fortunoff Video Archive for Holocaust Testimonies.

Popp received her PhD and MA in English from the University of California, Los Angeles and her BA in English from Yale University. In her spare time, she reviews monographs and poetry volumes for Wasafiri. She also serves on the editorial team for the feminist organization VIDA: Women in Literary Arts and volunteers for a number of higher education learning communities, including the UCLA Alumni Mentor Program, the Yale Alumni Schools Committee, and 1stGenYale, an affinity and advocacy group for first-generation, low-income students in the Ivy League. She is proud to be a first-generation college graduate.
