Named Fellowships and the ACLS Centennial Campaign

These donors have chosen to support scholars in a range of fields and disciplines, from art and culture of the ancient Americas to the dynamics of place; from American literature to classical and Chinese studies. In the 2020-2021 competition cycle, eight scholars have been awarded named fellowships, a great honor for the fellows and a rewarding opportunity for generous campaign donors to directly support and promote research in an area of scholarship that is important to them.

Named fellowships range from Centennial Fellowships, which can be established for a single year or a period of years, or endowed fellowships which exist in perpetuity once they are fully endowed. Centennial fellowships are not publicized individually, as our signature programs are, but they are included in our Central (ACLS Fellowship) program.

We are grateful to Yvette and William Kirby for their recent renewal of the Kirby Centennial Fellowship in Chinese Studies. This Centennial Fellowship has helped to support projects such as those of Anthony Barbieri-Low on Ancient Egypt and Early China, and Barbara L. Voss on the Chinese diaspora.
