American Council of Learned Societies Welcomes American Association for Italian Studies
Into Its Federation of Member Societies

The American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) is pleased to welcome the American Association for Italian Studies (AAIS) as the 79th member of its federation of learned societies.

On Friday, April 29, 2022, the ACLS Board of Directors approved the addition of this esteemed scholarly organization at the 2022 Annual Meeting, which took place in Philadelphia. AAIS is dedicated to encouraging, supporting, and conducting research and pedagogical activities in Italian culture.

“ACLS proudly welcomes the American Association for Italian Studies into our distinguished community of scholarly societies,” said ACLS President Joy Connolly. “In addition to contributions in the promotion of humanistic research, scholarly publication, and education, we look forward to sharing and learning through the work AAIS has done in fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field of Italian studies, highlighting recent research in Mediterranean studies, diaspora studies, Black Italy, and more.”

As a national federation of 79 learned societies, ACLS represents more than 275,000 scholars, faculty, and students of humanistic fields of study in the United States. Each ACLS Member Society is an independent, not-for-profit organization focused on promoting the research, publications, education, and impact of the distinct fields of study they represent, as well as supporting members on issues related to employment, professional ethics, maintaining and improving conditions for research, and diversity and inclusion.
