Abstract

Student loan debt in the United States has reached unprecedented levels, impacting various aspects of graduates' post-college lives. Using the College and Beyond II (CBII) dataset, this study examines how student loan debt affects liberal arts graduates' post-college decisions beyond financial considerations. Through analysis of alumni survey data collected ten years after graduation, this research investigates the relationship between student loan debt and three key outcomes: civic engagement, homeownership, and marriage/family formation decisions. This research provides valuable insights into the broader societal implications of student loan debt beyond its financial burden.
