Abstract

Student loan debt in the United States has reached unprecedented levels, impacting various aspects of graduates' post-college lives. This study, utilizing the College and Beyond II (CBII) dataset, focuses on liberal arts graduates to investigate the non-monetary consequences of college debt. Specifically, it examines how student characteristics, institutional factors, academic experiences, and student loan debt collectively influence post-baccalaureate levels of civic engagement, homeownership choices, and marriage and family formation decisions among liberal arts graduates. This research provides valuable insights into the broader societal implications of student loan debt beyond its financial burden.
