Roberto Rizzo

This project focuses on conducting follow-up research on the dynamics of re-religionization of the heritage sites of the Kedu Valley in Central Java, Indonesia. It develops from previous work on contemporary Buddhist revivalism in Indonesia, which characterized the fellow’s doctoral research and ethnographic monograph. This project looks specifically at the processes by which the local communities claim the cultural sites as sacred venues salient for everyday religious expression. The project aims to initiate a broader conversation on the re-enchantment of Buddhist heritage sites in the Southeast Asia region by producing written publications.
