Michael A. Bernstein F’89, F’84 Named President of The College of New Jersey
Michael A. Bernstein F’89, F’84 has been appointed president of The College of New Jersey (TCNJ). Bernstein has served as the college’s interim president since July 1, 2023, and his appointment is effective immediately.
Prior to joining TCNJ, Bernstein served as interim president of Stony Brook University from 2019-2020, and as as Stony Brook’s provost and senior vice president for academic affairs from 2016-2019. His fields of study are history and economics, with a focus on the connections between political and economic processes in modern industrial societies. He received an ACLS Fellowship in Studies of Modern Society and Values in 1984 and an ACLS Fellowship in 1989.
He is someone who listens and cares deeply about the college’s commitment to student success, which has at its center high-quality programs and faculty who engage their students as both teachers and scholars.
